AMD Athlon XP™ - Palomino Core Technology

The number of transistors in the Palomino core increased by half a million, from 37 million of Thunderbird to 37.5 million of Palomino. The surface area of Palomino's die is with 128 mm2 only little larger than the 120mm2 of Thunderbird. The new chip design IS able to reduce the power hunger of Athlon by 20% with the logical effect of a significant reduction of heat generationas well. While desktop and workstation Palominos will probably run at a core voltage of only 1.5 V, the voltage requirement of the today released Mobile Athlon 4 will be even less.

The AMD Palomino core is used in Athlon Processors with a whopping 37.5 million transistors.

The AMD Athlon XP™ Thoroughbred Processor

The AMD Athlon(tm) XP processor, with the "Thoroughbred" core, was the first AMD desktop processor manufactured on state-of-the-art 130 nanometer copper technology and addition to the family of seventh-generation AMD Athlon processors designed to meet the computationally-intensive requirements of software applications running on high-performance desktop systems. The new AMD Athlon XP processor based on 0.13 micron process technology increases the performance scalability provided by QuantiSpeed architecture by delivering higher clock speeds with lower thermal power. With the manufacturing process shrink from 0.18 micron to 0.13 micron technology, the new AMD Athlon XP processor consumes up to around 25 percent less power when operated at the same frequency as the AMD Athlon XP processor based on the "Palomino" core. The 0.13 micron process technology shrink provides the thermal headroom necessary to scale frequency within the thermal limits of desktop platforms, thus maximizing overall performance. The new AMD Athlon XP processor based on 0.13 micron process technology is also pin compatible with AMD's established Socket A infrastructure.

AMD Athlon XP - Barton Core Technology

AMD has increased their line of Athlon processors with the addition of the Barton core.
